Md Hasibul Islam founded Medical Mart BD after observing a specific gap in Bangladesh’s medical equipment market: patients who had just received prescriptions for CPAP therapy, BiPAP therapy, or home oxygen were walking into shops where sellers knew product prices but not the conditions behind them.
He built Medical Mart BD around a different approach — investing in genuine clinical understanding of the equipment, not just its specifications, so that the guidance provided before and after purchase is actually useful to the patient using the device.
His day-to-day role at Medical Mart BD includes patient consultations on equipment selection, product evaluation, and after-sales support. Why Medical Mart BD Exists
When Hasibul Islam first began working in the medical equipment space in Bangladesh, the problems were difficult to ignore.
Patients diagnosed with sleep apnoea would search for CPAP machines in Dhaka and face an overwhelming number of sellers, most of whom could not answer basic questions about the devices they were selling. What is the difference between auto CPAP and fixed pressure CPAP? Which mask type suits which sleeping position? What does the AHI reading mean? Most sellers had no answers. Their goal was to complete the transaction. The patient’s goal was to get better.
The same problem existed with oxygen concentrators. Families caring for relatives with COPD would ask about flow rate, oxygen purity, noise levels, and power consumption in Bangladesh’s electricity conditions. They were met with specs read off a box — not guidance from someone who understood the equipment.
There was a deeper problem too. Counterfeit and refurbished devices were — and still are — present in the Bangladesh market.
